I never would have thought while visiting my eighty-year-old mother this past weekend, I would find the latest technology in her house. But it was right there, in the July issue of Ladies Home Journal. As I was looking through the magazine, I found Tags next to several stories. Tags look something like bar codes. When the bar code is scanned by your smartphone, it will automatically link you to a video, website, text message or a dialer. The Tags in the articles linked you to videos that related to the story.
I went to http://gettag.mobi to download the free app for my iPhone and to learn more about Tags. I found that you can create your own tag for free! Imagine the possibilities for small businesses. According to the website, Tags can be placed on objects, any printed material, videos, t-shirts, even as temporary tattoos. You’ll want to avoid anything with curves, like balloons that may distort the Tag. Also avoid billboards. You don’t want to cause an accident while people try to snap the Tag while driving.
I would be great on brochures to link to a video that demonstrates a product or service. Or on signage at a trade show, to link you to a website. Even in stores next to or on a product. There are so many possibilities. I just ordered new business cards with a Tag on the back that will link you to my demo reel. I can’t wait to start using them.
This is the Tag I have on my card. If you have an iPhone, you can search the App Store for Microsoft Tag or go to the website above.
